Sacramento 2008 Success Stories
Davis Energy
The landmark Global Warming legislation (AB 32) has opened doors for innovation and entrepreneurs. With Platinum Advisors help, Davis Energy was able to advance their objectives through meetings with California Energy Commissioners and their Executive Director. Platinum Advisors established relationships were a key factor in getting guidance from the Senate Pro Tempore chief consultant on energy and environmental issues allowing Davis Energy to break into a brand new market for large scale residential retrofit projects. Platinum Advisors opened doors so Davis Energy could realize their business plan.
Yucaipa Valley Water District
Year after year, Platinum Advisors successfully advocates on behalf the Yucaipa Valley Water District, which has been able to maintain its current level of local property taxes they receive to improve their infrastructure system. Every year a new proposal is introduced to re-direct a portion of the local revenues Yucaipa receives to fund other state programs, but because of Platinum these proposals are unsuccessful. Platinum’s ability to protect Yucaipa’s funding has enabled the Yucaipa Valley Water District to complete over $100 million in potable water, sewer and recycled water projects.
San Bernardino County
By preventing new state mandates, Platinum Advisors has saved San Bernardino County millions of dollars. Specifically, we secured favorable amendments to a bill that would have required the County to spend over $3 million on a duplicative local health assessment and planning report. In addition, we stopped a measure that would have required the County to create a nearly $1 million annual expenditure for a redundant layer of government for land use planning purposes.
Estee Lauder
Platinum Advisors has been representing a major cosmetic company in California for several years on a number of issues related to public health, air quality, and safe cosmetics. The company is a manufacturer and marketer of quality skincare, make-up, fragrance and hair care products, sold in over 130 countries and territories under world recognized brand names. Their products are widely sold in California in more than 300 prominent department stores, specialty retailers and to a lesser extent, free-standing company owned stores and spas. In addition, the company employs over 1500 California residents. The safety of their products is of paramount importance to them and enormous care is taken to extensively evaluate each and every ingredient before a product is introduced. In 2008, a legislative proposal was introduced in California that would ultimately ban the manufacturing of any lipstick that was sold in California, by creating an unwarranted standard for ingredients. This standard was based on erroneous facts and conclusions about the existing health risks to consumers. Drawing upon our many years of legislative advocacy experience, Platinum Advisors was instrumental in the final defeat of the proposal in the California State Assembly, thus saving the company and industry over $250 million in potential retail sales of lipsticks in California.
The County of Orange
The County of Orange, one of the largest urban counties in the State of California, sponsored a cost-savings bill to allow the electronic filing of economic statements of interests in accordance with regulations adopted by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). Due to today's economic crisis, the bill proposed thousands of dollars in savings by proposing a solution to the current paper-bound filing system which results in cumbersome, inefficient and expensive procedures and unnecessary paper record storage costs. Platinum Advisors formed a coalition of supporters of the proposal and solicited several other counties to join our efforts to create a pilot program. We created a strategic plan that resulted in several months of successful negotiations with the Governor's administration, the FPPC, and Senate and Assembly leadership -- while simultaneously defeating political opponents. Platinum Advisors was instrumental in leading this proposal to victory and it was signed into law in 2008.
